Finding those August mobile phone Bargains

It's August and most of us are returning from our summer breaks, what better way to indulge yourself than with a bit of mobile phone retail therapy? We have chosen some to handsets that are available for free on contract so you don't have to spend any cash to get them. Here are the best deals that we found.
1) Nokia N97 deals - An expensive handset needs an expensive tariff and we figure that if you want a handset like the N97 you will be using it a fair bit. Vodafone are offering a £40.00 per month deal over 18 months with 600 minutes and unlimited texts thrown into the bargain. A good offer for such an expensive handset.
2) Nokia 5530 deals - A lower spec version of the original Nokia 5800, this handset sneaks in at number 2 because of its affordability. You can get the same tariff as the N97 for a mere £21.00 per month, half the price. It also comes with Nokia's flagship Xpressmusic service, not bad at all.
3) Samsung Jet deals - The Samsung Jet is a great first attempt into the Android spectrum and can be picked up for a fraction of the price of some of the other Android handsets. £21.00 per month gets you 400 minutes and 3000 texts. If cashback isn't your thing you can get the same deal for £25.00 per month on Orange
4) Blackberry curve 8520 deals - An updated version of this classic handset. Orange do an unlimited data package for £35.00 per month which includes 600 minutes and 500 texts. Very good considering this handset has just been released.
5) HTC Hero deals - The true iPhone rival in our opinion. The number of Apps available for Android phones is set to explode over the next year or so and this is the best Android handset on the market. Vodafone is our pick with 600 minutes and unlimited texts for £31.00 per month
6) Nokia N86 deals - The gamers phone is a popular choice and not too pricey £25.00 per month gets you 400 minutes and 3000 texts over an 18 month period. An all round cheaper alternative to the N97.
7) Sony Ericsson W995 deals - The Best SE handset out (until the Aino and Satio are released), T-Mobile wins through by far here, with £21.20 getting you 700 minutes and 3000 texts over an 18 month period. Excellent value in our opinion.
8) LG Crystal deals - Although it does not offer the best deals in town, it looks cool, so we included it as a last resort. £35.00 per month will get you 600 minutes and unlimited texts from Orange on an 18 month contract.

Apple iphone 3G S. Do looks really matter?

We're already a bit bored with people complaining that the new Apple iPhone 3G S doesn't look any different from the previous Apple iphone 3G (the added S stands for speed by the way, more on that below). We say: so what! It's still the best looking phone you can buy by a country mile. And you at least get to choose whether it comes in white or black... what more do you want?!

More important to us is what's under the hood, and we're more than a little impressed. With a juicy new processor and increased RAM the iPhone 3G S now snaps through internet sites, crackles through transitions and pops applications up quicker than you can say Rice Krispies.

There's also been some great improvements to the camera. Not only have they added another megapixel (still only 3MP, but better than before) but you can now both film AND edit video with the handset. The video is 30 frames per second VGA and you can share just shot video via MMS, email, MobileMe and YouTube. The still camera has auto focus, auto exposure, and auto white balance and a really cool new function allows you to tap to focus, changing white balance in the process. The camera also supports photo and video geotagging.

Another great fact is that you can now replace your dongle! No, not that one, you're stuck with that one. We mean the dongle that lets you connect your laptop to the internet as you roam around. The Apple iPhone 3G S can now be tethered, meaning you can use it as the 3G source of your internet connection, and you can do so with both Mac and PC laptops.

Sony Ericsson W395 Walkman: A Perfect Companion

I need to travel quite a bit for work. Most of the time, I am working even when I travel, but there are times when I get some time to sit back and enjoy the journey. I have been looking for a good economic phone that doubles as a great music player. I have seen many models of music phones so far, but they are all packed with features I do not use or want. I don’t see why I need to shell out so much money for a product I am not even going to fully use.
That is when I heard about the Sony Ericsson W395 Walkman and I knew right then that it was the perfect phone for me. It is being marketed as an economically priced entry level music phone. Perfect, isn’t it? With the Sony Ericsson W395 Walkman, you can easily sort tracks by artists and albums and browse through your entire music collection. There is also an easily accessible dedicated key for the Walkman and a directional pad that doubles as navigation controls for the music player. This makes the music player so very easy to use.
I am not an avid photographer, although I do like to take pictures once in a while. The 2 MP inbuilt camera in the Sony Ericsson W395 Walkman is perfect for my needs. The batteries in the The offical press release phone are expected to last for up to 8 hours of talk time, 20 days of standby time, or 12.5 hours of continuous music playback. I can tell you I find that very appealing, especially when I am travelling.
I know I am going to get myself a Sony Ericsson phones as soon as possible. It is just too perfect to pass up.

Samsung S3500: A Perfect Gift For My daughter

The thought of gifting always gives me jitters. I have never been able to figure the perfect gift for anybody in my life. But, I have a feeling that this is going to change. My 16 year old daughter’s birthday is coming up and I was browsing the net for a suitable birthday gift.
That is how I chanced upon a website discussing the World Mobile Congress 2009. It listed some of the phones that were unveiled at the conference and divided them in different price ranges. I figured the low range phones were worth a try as a suitable birthday gift for my girl. I was losing hope when none of the low range phone seemed good enough for her when I chanced upon the S3500.
I was bowled over from the minute I saw the Samsung S3500. The sleek metallic look and the simple design simply looked awesome. The price seemed to be as yet disclosed so I went back to make sure if it was really a low range phone. Well, it was.
I really thought that if the design of a low range phone was so classy, there must be some severe compromise in terms of the features of the S3500. I was pleasantly surprised again. All the so called high end features that my daughter knew about were all there. The camera, video recorder, the Bluetooth, the expandable memory, media player- they were all incorporated in the T-mobile. It even had a rather fancy display- 2.2-inch TFT screen with 16M colors.
I have no doubt that my daughter will fall in love with this phone from the moment she sees it. It is stylish to look at and has all the fancy features she could have asked for.

Samsung Omnia HD i8910 – The Future Phone with HD

Samsung has taken a huge step forward by including HD capabilities into Samsung Omnia HD i8910. With an 8 mega pixel camera, this phone can be said to be more of a camera than a phone. But when you go through the rest of the specifications you will agree with me when I say this phone is feature- rich combination of a camera, phone, media player and a GPS.

It is a tablet shaped phone with a glossy plastic finish on the back with tempered glass on the front over the 3.7 inch touchscreen. The back has the camera where as the front has a VGA camera for videocalls. The screen uses AMOLED, which gives wider viewing angle and uses less power. AMOLED screens are better than LCD TFT screens with respect to contrast. Samsung Omnia HD i8910 runs on the Symbian S60 user interface and uses handwriting recognition.

The audio experience is also good and the twin speakers present on the top and bottom are impressively loud. They have been position at the right place to sound good while playing videos. The specifications tell us that with the 1500 mAh battery, Samsung Omnia HD i8910 will allow for 3 hours of HD video recording and 4.3 hours of video playback which will be more than enough for playing a movie.

Coming to the GPS feature, check out this video has navigation application and a magnetometer. To help with games, it has an accelerometer also called as the G- sensor. The G- sensor is also used for automatic rotation of the screen and another feather where you can flick to silence the phone.

The connectivity features are also very impressive. It has Wi- Fi features, Bluetooth and hi- speed USB. With all the above awesome features and the nice look, Samsung mobile phones can be called a beauty with the brains.

Samsung i7410 –The Phone- Projector Combo

The mobile revolution has always been exciting. With the years that have passed by, it still amazes me when I think of the things that can be packed into a mobile phone. Mobile phones have moved on from being used only for calls and text to being used for playing music, movies, capturing pictures and videos. And finally Samsung has come up with i7410 that can be used for projecting.

This is ‘The Phone’ for a businessman who has to take his work for presentation to clients. He now doesn’t have to worry about lugging a heavy laptop along every time he goes out to meet a client. He can just load all his files onto his i7410 and present it to the client in a darkened room. It also has a 5 mega pixel camera and if you are a teacher and want to capture something to show your class, this can come in very handy.

The email feature is also very useful as the phone has applications that allow you to save the attachments and display them. The projector allows you to display images that are as big as 50 inches and as small as 5 without distorting the image much. The touch sensitive display makes displaying slides very convenient. It uses the TouchWiz UI which makes Samsung i7410 all the more impressive and finger friendly.

Another interesting feature is the flick navigation that comes with this phone where the user can advance to the next slide or the next picture only with the flick of one’s wrist. The projector can also be used as a powerful flashlight. All in all Samsung is a great phone and can be used by businessmen, teachers, students and almost anybody who will need to presentations.

Waiting for the Samsung GT S1100 Watch Phone

I never thought I would wait in so much anticipation for a mere phone. To be fair, the GT S1100 watch phone is no ordinary phone. Yet, I am surprised at the impatience I am feeling for its release.
What stole my heart was the unique and subtle way the Samsung GT S1100 watch phone was presented at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Spain, late last year. Unlike other phone, this particular phone is not just a piece in itself, but an epitome of ten years worth of research and development. The Samsung GT S1100 watch phone was shown as the culminating piece of a long line of watch phones designed and developed by Samsung over the last ten years. It was displayed in a glass casing along with the other watch phones produced by Samsung. Every watch phone had the model number, most important features and the year of release printed on the glass case in front of it. At the very end was see engadget, with its primary features and the year 2009 printed in front of it. I personally thought that it was one of the most subtle and effective ways of announcing the imminent release of the phone.
Of course, the fact that the Samsung is a watch phone is remarkable in itself. There are a couple of watch phones in the market, but none with the legacy and sense of tradition for quality that this phone brings. Although only those features that are comparable to other watch phones in the market are currently disclosed like the touch screen, or the built-in speaker and Bluetooth. I have no doubt that this phone will have a number of high end features that are completely unexpected.

Eco Friendly Samsung Blue Earth

There is a lot to talk about the Samsung Blue Earth, which was unveiled at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona, Spain under the banner: “The Blue Earth Dream: Eco-living with Samsung mobile.” There is no doubt that this mobile phone is a strong testament to Samsung’s commitment to design and create eco friendly products.
The design of the Blue Earth is unique, in that it is made to resemble a flat, round and shiny pebble. The phone is al equipped with a solar power panel at the back to ensure that you have enough power to call anyone, anytime, anywhere. The Blue Earth is made from recycled plastic bottles. This means that lesser plastic bottles clog our environment and at the same time fuel consumption and carbon emissions are reduced in the manufacturing process by using this material.
But, that’s not all. The handset and the cell phone charger of the see Cnet for more information are both free of harmful substances like Brominated Flame Retardants, Beryllium and Phthalate. The cell phone charger is also unique in that uses standby power lower than 0.03W. The packaging of the phone, which is small and light, is also designed to be eco friendly by using recycled paper.
If you think that the Samsung mobile phones would not have high end features, you would be wrong. To begin with, it is a touch screen phone. There are a number of other high end features included in this phone to ensure that not only environment conscious people use it, but it remains relevant to users with different kinds of needs.
All, I know is that the this is the first mobile phone that has made such a huge effort at being environment friendly, and will no doubt have a huge following.

LG KT770 is Facebook friendly!

It sounds a little pathetic, but my life revolves around Facebook – my friends are all there, my events are there, I send my emails from there, use it as a phonebook – everything I need, socially, is at Facebook, so I am really excited to hear that the LG KT770 has a Facebook app.
This may all just be speculation, but if it is true, then it means that I can keep track of my account all the time – at school, at work – a great idea from LG. Some of my friends use the internet on their phones to access Facebook, but with a Facebook application built into my phone, I am sure that it will be faster and easier too. I really want to know more about the LG KT770.

Apparently, the LG KT770 has a 5.0 mega pixel camera. This is perfect. With a high res camera, and a Facebook app, I can constantly update photos of things going on around me and events that I am attending. Concerts, festivals, parties! I really need a good camera, but I think that maybe I will spend on the phone and get the 5.0 mp camera as part of the package – definitely worth it. Face detection and smile detection are welcome features to me -my photography skills could definitely use a little help.

The LG has great internet options as well – WIFI and WLAN both. It has a 2.8 inch display screen which will make the browsing experience all the more enjoyable. I might even consider loading a few episodes of my favorite TV shows on to the micro SD card and watching them on my long commutes. I really look forward to the LG KT770. It will fill in all the little gaps in my day and keep me connected at the same time.

Nokia E55 – Great Battery life on a great phone

Nokia has always been my favourite mobile manufacturer – they always have great quality phones at fairly reasonable prices (but not dirt cheap) and the design and look and feel of the phones is always excellent. I feel the same way about the Nokia E55. It is compact and well designed, and has some new features that make me want to just go out and buy it right away.

The QWERTY keypad, for one. An unexpected addition to their candybar phone. I hope it is as user friendly as it seems to be. The phone is marketed as a messaging phone, so I am pretty sure that their messaging utility will be top of the line. The Nokia E55 has a new predictive engine that completes and corrects your typing automatically, and also learns new words. It has bluetooth version 2.0, MTP support, USB, Ovi, on HSUPA, HSDPA, WCDMA connectivity, so the messages you type will reach their destination pretty much as soon as you hit send. It concatenates up to 10 messages (no more excuses for those annoying text message abbreviations like CU for “see you,” or 2 for “to.”), lets you delete multiple messages, and has a text to speech message reader.

The calling functions are really competitive. The Nokia E55 has a new noise cancellation software that gets rid of disturbing sounds around you to make the conversation clearer. Great to use on a busy street or outside a train station. The official product page has integrated handsfree and conference calling, automatic redial, video calling, and automatic answer with headset or car kit. All important features for those who value time as money.

One of the best things about all Nokia phones is their battery life – the Nokia has a 1500mAh battery that gives you a GSM talktime of 8 hours and a standby time of 672 hours. It has a WCDMA talktime of 6 hours and standby time of 456 hours. It plays music for up to 18 hours and FM radio for up to 30 hours. Long lasting and reliable, you know you won't suddenly be left out in the cold if you forget to charge your phone one day.

Web browsing and GPS (along with a new version of the Maps software and a compass) are also available on the Nokia E55.

Nokia 8208- Jack Of all Trades?

The release of 8208 is shrouded in mystery. There is not much information out there to know about all its features for sure. But there is enough information to impress every fan of latest mobile phone technology. Added to that, are the huge expectations consumers are known to set for any product coming from Nokia, one of the best mobile phone producers in the world.
The Nokia 8208 is expected to be a mobile phone with a number of high end features, but it is expected to come at a reasonable price. For instance, the Nokia 8208 is a dual sliding phone, a feature reserved for the N Series phones so far. We are not told about the expected price of the phone, but it is believed to be in the vicinity of $400, which seems very reasonable to me considering all the features it promises to have.
The one thing that sets the Press images apart is its unbelievable music playback time of over 20 hours. Add to that 11 hours of standby time and 4 hours of talk time and you get the recipe of the perfect mobile phone for travelers and globe trotters, as more and more people are wont to be these days.
Apart from that, the Vodafone is said to have a 2.2″ display screen and 240×320 screen resolution. The screen is supposed to made with none other than Carl Zeiss glass for absolute clarity. The phone is also equipped with a 3.0 Mp camera and 6x digital zoom. There are also other features like Bluetooth connectivity, FM Radio, GPS, external music keys, etc. From the sound of it, it looks like this is going to be amongst the most popular phone once it is out in the market.

Must have the Nokia 6720 Classic (when it comes out)

'Classic' is a word I would use to describe almost all of Nokia's handsets, so if they're calling it that, then you'd better believe it. The Nokia 6720 Classic is in a traditional candybar design, no slider, no flip top, a sleek greyish black colour, or a chestnut brown (one of the less used cellphone colours, but pretty creative, I would say) and a convenient and compact 110.0 x 45.0 x 14.0 mm. It is subtly curved in shape so that it fits nicely into your hands and face, and has a new function called 'noise cancellation' that is set to decrease ambient sound for a crystal clear phone conversation.

The Nokia 6720 Classic has a bright and shiny display 2.2inches (which isn't huge, but perfectly sized when you look at the animation and graphics that are oh so tidy) displays up to 16.7 million colours - I didn't even know that that many existed. The Nokia mobiles uses TFT technology (for quick loading and refreshing of images)

The 6720 Classic
also has a really fantastic camera, GPS navigation system with Maps software that make special sense for pedestrians, an inbuilt compass, high speed internet connection, bluetooth, MTP, TV out option, HSDPA and a few other abbreviations that don't really make sense to me, but I'm sure are wonderful.

has a whole set of new features for text (sms) messaging – which is great for me because I don't always want to talk to someone when I have something to say – you know what I mean. It saves a lot of money too. It supports concatenated SMS for long messages, multiple SMS deletion (so all those tasteless jokes that my brother send me can all go at once,) test to speech message reader so I can actually hear my messages, audio messaging so I can say them, OVI chat support, and windows live support. What more can you ask for?

This is going to be such a good phone, I can't wait for it to come out. Let's go, Nokia! The next few paragraphs are going to be a list. A list of all the awesomeness of the Nokia 5630 XpressMusic . Her we go, I can't wait to begin:

S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 – woohoo, smart phone, here I come! Symbian OS v9.3, 240 x 320 resolution. Sized at 112 x 46 x 12 mm super slim phone, great design, great to carry, great look and feel. 3 Labelled soft keys, 5-way Scrolling, dedicated camera key (no fussing around with menus), dedicated media keys. dedicated volume keys. How do they fit all that in? I don't know...great design?

There has been immense speculation about the Touch Pro 2 before its release. People said that if it actually did live up to the expectations set by its expected features and functionality; it could be the best Windows mobile device in the industry. The Touch Pro 2 has now released and has not just lived up to the expectations people set of it, but has far exceeded them.

Touch Pro 2 has a lovely feel and a sleek design. There are only four buttons on the phone for home, back, phone send and end keys apart from the centre button which also functions as a virtual scroll wheel. The stylus included with the phone is magnetic and allows for easy access and storage.

It is the slide out QWERTY keyboard of the official overview that takes the cake. It slides out with the slightest touch, but you can be sure that it won’t just slide out on its own. As soon as you open the keyboard, the display on the phone automatically converts to landscape, without your having to do so, making it easier and quicker for you to use the keyboard. The other thing that makes the keyboard a breeze to work with is the fact that it is made up of individual keys and not a single rubber surface, which makes it easier for you to type even though the keyboard is small.

I am excited about the April release of the Sony Ericsson C901 Filippa Cybershot camera phone. This is going to be a cell phone that has a high-resolution digital camera, auto focus function, flash feature, and Bluetooth capabilities.
One of the best advantages I foresee for the Sony Ericsson C901 Filippa Cybershot mobile phone is that it is not being advertised under a particular carrier, such as Virgin or Verizon. Hopefully T-Mobile customers will be able to take advantage of this new C901 Filippa Cybershot without paying more than maybe 75 pounds and not needing a specific contract with a particular company.
The camera feature of the Sony Ericsson C901 Filippa Cybershot also makes this seem worthwhile. It is a 5 megapixel digital camera, which appeals to people who actually want to take good pictures.
So why should people buy the Sony Ericsson C901 Filippa Cybershot as opposed to getting a free generic Nokia phone with their new phone plan or when getting an upgrade? I can think of a ton of reasons. One: I can choose from Noble Black, Precious Peach, and Sincere Silver. Getting a phone in Precious Peach just doesn’t get to happen very often. This phone would also enable me to be one of those semi-irritating people walking in the mall or driving in a car on my Bluetooth, which is something I’ve been wanting to try for a long time.
I also get to have a real digital camera in my phone which makes using it for social and family events very convenient, and the chances are good the shots might actually turn out to be something well-worth uploading to my Facebook or MySpace pages. They might even be suitable for printing, depending on how good the 5 megapixel resolution is.

The recently launched Samsung D980 is a dual SIM phone from Samsung which means you can use two SIM cards at the same time – essentially giving you two phones in one. The Samsung D980 handset is actually pretty good and offers a lot of features besides the dual SIM aspect. The phone has a 5 mega pixel camera with auto focus and a flash as well as an FM radio and media player. The phone also benefits from a document viewer, email client and web browser, although the phone isn’t a 3G device. I’ve seen some Samsung D980 reviews and most seem very positive about this phone although it appears to be nothing super special.
There are a lot of Samsung D980 deals available but I’m not sure about the Samsung D980 contract phone because of the dual SIM aspect; I’m not sure if it’ll be available on contract. However, the phone does look very swish and is an attractive device which in my opinion is well worth the purchase. The phone is a little heavy for a touch screen phone but I assume that’s because of the larger battery which is needed to power dual SIM devices. There are a lot of mobile phone deals available right now and as it draws nearer to Christmas you can expect some pretty great deals to be available.
I’ve also seen a Samsung D980 video review which is well worth watching if you’re interested in this phone because it shows you the features in a lot more detail and allows you to see the phone in action. Is the Sony Ericsson C903 good enough?

The new offering from Sony Ericsson has left us a little bewildered. The new Sony Ericsson C903 doesn't really seem to offer that much more that its older brother the C902, apart from being bulkier and slightly less attractive. So why would you opt to go for the Sony Ericsson C903 when it is finally released in a month's time?
Well some of the additional features that are included are certainly aimed at the photo lovers out there. How good these additional features are however, remain to be seen. Firstly there are dedicated camera keys, which seems to make sense as the distinction between a camera and a mobile phone a blurring by the day (anyone seen the Sony Ericsson Idou yet?) and so dedicated keys make a lot of sense. Then there are additional features like face detection and smile shutter. There is also a best pic mode which essentially means the phone will take 9 pictures very quickly and allow you to choose the best one.
All this is very well, but you are only getting a 5 mega pixel camera as part of the offering. We feel that Sony could have done better here, as that was so 2008 and people are now demanding much higher quality images from their mobile phone devices. One thing to bear in mind however, is that the Sony Ericsson C903 is a mid range phone and will therefore be priced accordingly. Perhaps it is worth bearing it in mind as a Pay as you go
